Cult Movies + Pinata

Had a pretty fantastic weekend entertaining myself with simple pleasures called cult movies and pinatas. MN and I decided to chill at home on Sunday and we ended up having more fun indoor than outdoor.

MN introduced me to cult movies and to my surprise, I was hooked and absolutely love it! Clerks II is awesome. Every part of this movie is worth watching and Kevin Smith really plays to the fans of his films. This movie is hailed as an icon of indie films and boy, it is chock full of clever retorts and smutty commentary that knock some sense into my head.

I have not watch the first sequel of this movie which according to MN, was shot entirely in black&white, but I can tell that the two sequels are pretty excellent together. Its basically about two underachieving twosome moving on from working in a convenient store called Quick Stop to frying burgers at Mooby's. Their lives revolve around trash talk and throwing around crude sexual humor as a way of passing the time at the joint. One of them, Dante is quitting Jersey for Florida to wed his typical rich fiance, Emma but somehow, his plan gets complicated along the way because of his devotion to his manager, Becky.

Two reasons why I like Clerks II are because it is sincere and for the reason that Jay and Silent Bob are totally comical to the max. Kudos to Kevin Smith for bringing it back after 12 years.

Another movie that I watched was Zombieland; another great laugh after Shaun of The Dead and Army of Darkness. I'm not a fan of Army of Darkness but if to compare between Shaun of The Dead and Zombieland, I still prefer Shaun of The Dead. What's lacking, as MN would aptly put, is that Zombieland doesn't quite seem to fit as yet another cult-zombie-movies. However, Zombieland stand on its own style and has quite a solid storyline which I love.

Between sexy-looking vampires and freaky-funny zombies, I'll pick the latter any day now.

I can't wait to go home and smash some pinatas tonight. Made them on Sunday and trust me, its actually pretty simple to do! Rather than buying it
ridiculously for a hundred bucks, this brightly-colored papier-mache thats gonna be smashed in the end, can be made in a few easy steps!

Here's one website complete with vids that I found very helpful. Perhaps, you too wanna make your own pinata? I'll share how my pinatas look like in the next entry :)

I use Trebuchet coz I'm fed up with Verdana.

The son of M8, I so want this.

Had three great dinners in a row with MN. Sunday night I brought him to a small cafe back in Muar where my parents used to dine when they were younger (and still dating). I grew up dining at this cafe with them eating ice-cream and two-piece fried chicken. We had our family dinner every Friday there too. And back then, Friday in Johor was considered a weekend off.

What used to be a small fast food joint is now a cosy cafe with soothing ambience and interior design. The food remains practically the same. I still love their sweet bun that's wayyy better than other sweet bun I've ever tasted in my whole life. Their nasi beriyani and nasi lemak are not that bad either. I have a cousin who used to be addicted to their nasi lemak that she dragged me there nearly every night.

So back to the great dinners I had - MN made me laugh at his stupid jokes all night long and we played Q&A; he amazed me with nearly 40 questions in 10minutes. I had a tough time answering "Amongst your good friends, who would you pick to watch porn with?" coz I'm stuck between Eka and Muzzo.

And we had an awesome time slurping great Penang food at a place near where I work last night. I had tom yam kuey tiao that's really spicy with sambal goreng. Damn! The combination of the two were so orgasmic! You know the explosion in your head if you have too much wasabi? It's pretty much the same but with less dynamite. Orang melayu kata 'tebabo'? Yeap. Its like that. If you dig hot and spicy stuff, I recommend Simply Penang.

I've started my painting project too. Oil paint on canvas. I think this is the most versatile medium to use. I can either go really thick or extremely thin. Now that I've started, I kinda regret it not using linseed oil coz my painting didn't dry thoroughly. Shall wait for three days before I could apply another coat. Painting spank my temper hard, really.

Bought the canvas and paints at my favorite art shop in Muar. I spend most of my time there on my hols, the place is magic. And me being so cheap and broke, I ended up using tripod and two big clips as my easel. Even cooler if they can transform into big giant autobots. Yea, I wish.

Free Awesome Paper Projects

Went to meet my favorite hairstylist, Mika for a trim.

A good friend of mine asked me out to a club tonight which is a means for me to play dress-up. I thought I was getting old since all I love doing nowadays is spending time at home painting, reading and doing paper projects.

I remember when I was a little kid, I love to play with paper dolls. The cut out ones that comes with gorgeous outfits, handbags and sometimes little kitties so you can dress them all up pretty. It costs about RM0.20 each, if i'm not mistaken.

I found them again on the internet and yea if you're
into these things, either by natural proclivity or by default, you might want to check this thing out! There's tons of paper projects ideas and one of them is to make your own toy theater! I got a great link for a free one here from the same site and I can't wait to try!

This gorgeous paper doll is from Oliver + S.

It absolutely blows my mind how many free projects and ideas are out there like this. I almost choked digging through all this vintage (mostly French) ephemera and the like.

Amazing.
