Happy Days
It had been a good week so far and I have never love Tuesday like I do today. At home now, relaxing and enjoying my long hols.
Last week was filled with fun and sweet surprises. Most of us at work were very much in good spirit and despite itching to leave for official company hols, we worked hard and played hard nonetheless. Had an amazing, long pre-Christmas lunch with fellow colleagues - twas the best one so far with none of us discussing work hehe, and when it was time for the lucky draw and christmas swap session; I was asphyxiated with happiness. I got vouchers worth RM200, a small bonus as a newcomer, cute little gifts and a multi-function cooker. Woooot! Awh-some! Completing the happy day was a quiet, relax dinner with my closest friends at Chef & Brew located inside a mansion in Damansara Heights- one of the best place to get really good mushroom soup. MN and Eka both had fusion Bombay Chicken while Nadiah had lamb steak and yours truly has forgotten what she had after she sunk her teeth on a delicious moist chocolate cake that's her dessert.
Now this place has become one of my favorite simply for their mouth-watering food, simple superb ambience that reflects a rather high level of classy, sophistication. As a sister restaurant to Victoria Station, prices are pretty much the same but the quality might slightly be lower yet still delicious. They have a daily set menu at RM 16.90 that comes with a soup, main course, dessert & coffee/tea. The main course is changed daily with 2 choices to pick from. The dessert can either be a slice of cake or ice cream. Its a great alternative if I am in a budget-mood but in dire for good food.
Weekend was no exception - had a wonderful time with MN browsing around the malls searching for backpacking stuff. Got myself a discounted original Deuter that suits my budget, petiteness and pretty short torso. Good enough as a small preparation before I could really carry a heavier load. It sits comfortably on my shoulder and has a suspension system that allows quick, easy adjustment of torso length. Plenty of room for clothes and two lid pockets and side bellows pockets allow me to store often-accessed gear such as torchlight, my truckers cap, sunscreen, bug repellent and found treasures. I can really use this for a small hike or a lightweight backpacking trip. I might need a 45l if I intend to backpack further and longer.
I can't wait to hop on the train tomorrow, enjoy my bunk bed and toast to new year in a strange land. It's gonna be an awesome time catching sunrise on a coach.Wrapping up my last entry for 2009, here's wishing to yet another wonderful, healthy, joyful year for 2010.

Penang, Back Again.
It has been a while since I last went back to the Pearl of the Orient's land. Spent two days during Iduladha visiting MN's granny and touring the island.
Harvest In Cafe is a nice little diner snuggled at the corner between Irrawaddy Road and Chow Thye Road where I had a lovely birthday luncheon with hubby. I have always love the eateries around the island especially those old government-quarters-turn-cafes. They are all neatly tucked in around the bend, surprising you with a warm and inviting psychedelic look. Now this one gem, has a pretty impressive western line-up that comes with reasonable prices. Main meals start from RM7.90 onwards for lunch, with delicious mushroom soup and ginger bread for RM4.90.
I had a tasty peach tea with my stir fried spaghetti which was a nice combo for a sunny afternoon. The interior is a crispy white with high ceilings and nicely decorated wall. The only downturn is that there's not much of variety but I leave them with a benefit of a doubt. They are pretty new anyway. The manager is such a sweetheart, checking up on us every 10 minutes or so. It was a hols so we made ourselves cosy outside, away from the (pretty noisy) crowd, enjoying the day. Definitely gonna go back here the next time around, cause a good western treat is kinda hard to come by in Penang.

I have always love Batu Feringghi and life is incomplete without a tour along the night street market. Got a real deal from a few newly opened stalls. MN bought me two beautiful pairs of leather slippers from Jaipur. Pretty good steal considering its real leather. Had a quick dinner at the Long Beach cafe down the road before Golden Sands Resort. Always full of tourists, this place is frikkin' hot and locals often being mistaken as tourists. And what do ya know, I stumbled into two tattoed dude whom I thought were backpackers. As it turned out, Chris and his friend hails from England and have been making Malaysia as their second home by opening up a kebab stall for seven years now. Definitely gonna pop down again for their scrumptious kebab and chips.
One of my favorite thing to do while in Penang is of course, hunting down for vintage findings. This time, got myself two pairs of digital Casio watches that didn't burn any hole in my pocket plus a green, handmade canvas bag at an old shop down the Campbell Street. These two businesses belong to daddy-in-law's old friends so you can say that I got even better deal being around the locals.
I've cut my hair pixie-short after four good years of keeping it shoulder-length. Give me a good, happy vibe everytime.
ARCHIDEX '09
I was at the Archidex '09 earlier with my Creative Director.
Felt like a long day now - started off with coffee and chicken pie for breakfast at Starbucks then commence to spend few hours wastelanding around hundreds of booth. Was there to check out a booth we designed for a company. Architecture, interior and building industry - if its your cuppa tea you may like the exhibition though i personally think it lacks impression.
Amused with Sculptureatwork, however. Reminds me of how I miss walking into galleries. They provide sculpture for commercial works of any scale. There's this fascinating piece of work that is made of brass which resembles a horse with a tail made of steel chains. The look of it drew a feeling of power yet twas being placed sarcastically on top of a screen TV. I'm not sure if I can say that somehow gives a weird combo but hey I'm no Michealangelo to judge.

I’m happy for two things:
1- I found most of my ‘beyond reach’ schoolmates on fb
2- I was assigned by my boss to do a food photography for his client
Did a test shot yesterday and the result was a bit disappointing. I wish the pies could move and have expressions and wont look too depressed. This is my first try on food photography so I’m more than determine to make it work. If I could do this, that means another door of opportunity is going to open up for me.
Food styling and photography is not an easy task to do. Played with the most minimal of things- a table mat and that was it. Its a ‘if you have nothing to say, than shut up’ kinda thing. All Work and No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy
I guess it's time to cheer up a little and write something.
I've been insanely zombiefied and caffeinated for the past two weeks. Nadiah told me 'Ibah, you're nuts. Nuts!' which cracks me up. She has been accompanying me till midnight, chatting up in between staying awake at work. Going home from work at 5am for two straight weeks wasn't that bad actually. Traffic is super clear and the weather's always balmy and chilly.
I thank God that I have my main support beside me all the time. I love him.
Surprisingly, living life in the fast lane doesn't affect my social life at all. Managed to catch up with old friends, meeting up with new ones, attended all sorts of family luncheons/dinners, preparing for my big day and traveling a little bit here and there.
Weekends were filled with happy activities, that's for sure. Traveled to Penang a week after my engagement which was an absolute fun. Brought mom to taste food that she has never tasted before - nasi daun pisang and sushi. I could imagine her surprise but she had lotsa fun too. Head on to Passions of Kerala along Burmah Road if you happen to be in Penang. The owner is a lovely Indian lady who shared with us her cooking tips and secrets. But the best time I must say was during a small little hike up in Spice Garden where we sat on a giant swing and had lovely drinks at a cafe on top of the hill overlooking Batu Feringghi. They have a big jar of lovely lotus on each table. Which I think is sweet and perfect for a small wedding reception. The place is so cosy surrounded by huge trees.
Two weeks back, I finally had the chance to meet up with my flickr friend nicknamed 'kediwah' which means 'us' in kelabit. Chris and Sam are a lovely couple, proud film supporters I may add, who always stream on my photostream and share with me street shots they stumble upon in flickr. Chris is originally from SFO while Sam is a Kuchingite who now resides in Wellington. They were back in Malaysia on a two weeks vacation. Another photographer friend also managed to join us that night; Reza Ali who inspired me a lot with his insights and Zac Labang from Euro. I think Chris drove my fiance crazy with his gadgets. Twas a great meet up alright with everyone having a jolly good time talking about photography. I shall post up the group photo if Chris happen to upload 'em on his flickr.

It's my third entry for the day. I'm kinda bored so I google-d popcorn on the net and found this lovely recipe:
INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
* 1/2 cup unpopped popcorn
* 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
* 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
* add to recipe box Add to Recipe Box

DIRECTIONS
1. In a cup or small bowl, mix together the unpopped popcorn and oil. Pour the coated corn into a brown paper lunch sack, and sprinkle in the salt. Fold the top of the bag over twice to seal in the ingredients.
2. Cook in the microwave at full power for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes, or until you hear pauses of about 2 seconds between pops. Carefully open the bag to avoid steam, and pour into a serving bowl.
I have a microwave at home waiting to be used. Wonder where I can find the unpopped popcorn from. Or should I just buy McD's?
All You Need Is Moolah!
Greetings on this rainy Monday evening!
I am stealing a quick moment to munch some cookies and do catch up with the good ol' blog. Weekend was pretty slow and uneventful which is a bit of relief on my part - the past few weeks have been a little bit nuts so I decided to cut myself some slack and just hang around at home bumming my ass- had a cosy time with MN, our cats and some close friends.
Looks like I've favored a small chinese-muslim restaurant where I live. The crabmeat fried rice is superlicious, so I brought Elyna to the place on Saturday evening when she announced that she was in dire for a char kuew tiao. The food's fantastic and best of all; its hidden far away from any of those bustling hip joints.
Sunday was wicked. My best friend Zatyl asked me out for a brunch date and I made her wait for a good 15 minutes (sorry babe) as I was stuck with some chores. Brought her to one of my favorite place in town where MN and I often have our Sunday lunch together. The weather was so good - breezy, soft murmurs of the leaves blowing in the wind- and we had a chill time just us girls.
That was when she dragged me to the Designer's sale (which I already went the day before but didn't buy anything) eventhough I was pretty reluctant at first. I thought about it for a millisecond about the appropriateness of not going as i need to save up and everything, but said to myself 'the heck, just go!'.
MN tagged along later on and as soon as we got there, I was surprised that they cut off 50% more on the discounted items! Bonus! I was pretty low on cash but MN insisted on paying. He even helped me finding some very sexy looking tops a size 0, carried my handbag and was being a sweetheart; patiently waiting for me to finish with my shopping.
Got my hand on three lovely tops from CalvinKlein, DKNY and A|X all for RM115 only (the actual discounted price before the slashing was RM250)! I, oh so wanted to buy a lovely dress from MaxMara but twas way out of my reach - RM459 after less. Another lovely grab was a beige chiffon top and an elf-looking wool jacket from DKNY which i thought would look so cute if pair with my hot pants but I managed to pass that and just be satisfied with the other tops.
Later that evening, I was told by Zatyl that the shopping spree was actually a surprise from MN and that the day was actually planned without my knowledge at all and yea you can tell how smitten I was. I love them both to the moon and back!
Unrelated, I am listening to some slow jams and love it immensely.
Enjoy your days ahead and watch out for those fall sales - your boyfriend might have some surprise for you too!

Was seen stalking people with my camera on Saturday along Jalan Masjid India and Brickfields. Had a small family gathering on Sunday, okay not quite small as we had aunts and uncles and cousins from all over but twas a merry one with lots of great food - ketupat, rendang, sambal kacang, kuah lodeh, nasi minyak and ayam masak merah, laksa, lemang....shall I continue?
Managed to catch MPH's Warehouse Sale before the gath. Was there for about half an hour as I was in a bit of a hurry. Got this three with a lovely price:
1- The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night Time - Mark Haddon
2- A Spot of Bother - Mark Haddon
3- The Life And Times of A Thunderbolt Kid - Bill Bryson
I'm starting with the first one. Planning to find the talking horse and the sad girl and the village under the sea by Haddon.

It had been a lovely sunny sunday-funday. Started the day with a big feast with my family. Rebung masak lemak, siput sedut goreng, kari daging, tomyam, begedil, kentang cili, fishball soup, sayur kailan and did i mention rebung masak lemak? Its my favorite dish in the whole wide world! Nothing can come between me and my rebung masak lemak.
So as i was saying, we were pretty well fed overall. After stuffing ourselves yummy, we headed off to our usual Sunday shopping. My eldest brother got himself a lovely hand-made mat while mom enjoyed browsing around looking at bunga pahar. Yea, she has a thang with bunga pahar. She made it herself for my siblings' wedding to which we are always proud of. She jokingly said 'I love this design. I can make it myself. Maybe i can make a whole set, put it in the gerobok (cupboard) and wait ten years before we can use 'em for your wedding, adik.' Funny mom.
Went to visit my cousin who lived nearby. Again, had another big feast. We were served with hot tea, fried mee and lotsa kuih. I am blessed with mom, sisters, sister-in-laws, aunts and cousins who really knows how to cook as poor yours truly is such a terrible chef. Its one of the many reasons why i love family gathering as i can eat delicious home-made foods and have up to four servings without worrying about having to pay. :P

But Alhamdullilah, managed to get everything (temper excluded heh) under control and ended the evening with a great dinner at Asia Cafe and my usual java chip, grande, with cream and extra chip later on in Taipan. Good food and a great company.
Right. Off to watch Marie Antoinette now.
